To foster communal and social cohesion, the state government initiated the “Samuhik Vivah Yojana” in October 2017. This program conducts wedding ceremonies in accordance with the customs and traditions observed by various communities and religions. An additional aim of the scheme is to discourage unnecessary extravagance in wedding celebrations.
The scheme encompasses families from all communities with an annual income of Rs. 2,00,000/- from all sources. Under this initiative, Rs. 35,000/- is deposited into the bride’s bank account for the establishment of the household, while Rs. 10,000/- is allocated for essential wedding items such as clothing, jewelry, and utensils. Additionally, Rs. 6,000/- is allocated per marriage for associated expenses.
For mass wedding events, registrations and ceremonies are organized at the urban bodies’ level (Nagar Panchayat, Municipal Committee, Municipal Corporation), as well as at the Area Panchayat and Zila Panchayat levels, with a minimum of 10 couples per wedding event. This ensures efficient organization and implementation of the scheme’s objectives.
