Andaman and Nicobar Bed and Breakfast Home Stay Establishment Scheme: The Directorate of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, is implementing the ‘Andaman & Nicobar Bed & Breakfast/Homestay Scheme’ across the islands. This initiative aligns with the guidelines of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, under the “Incredible India Bed & Breakfast/Homestay Establishment” scheme. The scheme aims to offer supplementary and quality accommodation for both foreign and domestic tourists, allowing them to stay with Indian families and experience local customs and traditions.

The objective is to provide comfortable homestay facilities with standardized world-class services to enhance the availability of accommodation in tourist destinations. The Department of Tourism, A & N Administration, will classify fully operational rooms as “Andaman and Nicobar Bed and Breakfast/Homestay Establishments”. This scheme is designed to offer clean and affordable accommodations while giving foreign tourists the unique opportunity to stay with Indian families, experience Indian customs and traditions, and enjoy authentic Indian cuisine.

Andaman and Nicobar Bed and Breakfast Home Stay Establishment Scheme : Benefits

  • Bed-and-Breakfast Basis:
    • The scheme will operate on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
    • Charges will be levied accordingly.
  • Breakfast Specifications:
    • The type of breakfast to be offered must be specified.
    • Charges must be clearly displayed.
    • Visitors must be informed in advance to prevent disputes.
  • Inspection Readiness:
    • Establishments applying for classification or reclassification must always be ready for inspection by the Classification Committee.
    • No requests for deferment of inspection will be entertained.
  • Classification Validity:
    • Classification is valid for three years from the date of issue of orders.
    • For reclassification, validity is from the date of expiry of the last classification, provided the application is received within three months before the last classification expires.
  • Application Fee:
    • The application fee for classification or reclassification of a B&B or homestay is as follows:
      • Silver Category: ₹1000
      • Gold Category: ₹2000
    • The demand draft should be payable to the Sr. Accounts Officer, Directorate of IP&T, Port Blair.

Andaman and Nicobar Bed and Breakfast Home Stay Establishment Scheme : Eligibility

  • Applicable only to establishments where the owner/promoter and their family reside.
  • Owner/promoter and family must live in the same establishment.
  • Must offer a minimum of one room for guests.
  • Can offer a maximum of six rooms for guests.
  • Total guest accommodations cannot exceed 12 beds.

Andaman and Nicobar Bed and Breakfast / Home Stay Establishment Scheme: Application Process

  1. Approach the Regional Office:
    • Visit the Ministry of Tourism regional office. If there is no regional office in your state, approach the nearby state’s office.
  2. Obtain the Application Form:
    • Collect the application form from the concerned officer or download it from the specified link (refer to page 9).
  3. Fill Out the Application Form:
    • Complete the form with all necessary details. Note: Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  4. Attach Required Documents:
    • Ensure all necessary documents, as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section, are attached.
    • Attach photocopies of the required documents with the application form.
  5. Submit the Application:
    • Submit the completed form and attached documents to the concerned officer.
  6. Pay the Prescribed Fee:
    • Pay the fee as requested by the authority.
  7. Application Review:
    • The concerned authority will review the application and the attached documents. If everything is in order, the application will be accepted.
  8. Processing Time:
    • Applications are processed within a reasonable time, depending on the completeness of the information and documents submitted.
  9. Additional Information:
    • If needed, the authority may request additional information. The application process will continue only after the additional information is provided.
  10. Onsite Inspection:
    • The authority will conduct an onsite inspection related to the application.
  11. Issuance of Licence:
    • Once approved, the authority will issue the licence. The entire process can be completed within 30 days or as advised by the respective department authority.
