The Department of Tribal Welfare in the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands launched the “Scheme for Grant of Additional Scholarship to Scheduled Tribes Students from Andaman and Nicobar Islands Pursuing Higher Studies Anywhere in India Post-Senior Secondary Courses (Post 10+2 Courses).” This initiative aims to offer extra financial support in the form of scholarships to Scheduled Tribes (ST) students pursuing higher education after completing their Senior Secondary education (12th standard) at colleges or universities across India. The objective is to incentivize and assist students in meeting the costs associated with their education.

Scope: This additional scholarship is administered by the Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Administration, specifically for ST students from the Union Territory. It supplements existing scholarships or maintenance grants provided by the Department of Education, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.

Funding Pattern: Funds for this scheme are sourced from the Union Territory Plan and managed by the Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Administration.

Duration of Scholarship: Once awarded, the additional scholarship remains valid throughout the student’s course, contingent upon their good conduct and regular attendance, as verified by the Head of the Institution.

Benefits

  1. Value of Additional Scholarship:
    • Eligible Scheduled Tribe Students will receive ₹1000/- per month.
  2. Payment and Mode of Disbursal:
    • The scholarship is payable for ten months during an academic session.
    • Normally applicable to students who have completed the previous academic session.
    • The scholarship amount will be directly transferred to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

Eligibility

  1. Open to all students belonging to Scheduled Tribes (STs) of Andaman and Nicobar Islands as per the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Scheduled Tribes Order No. 58 dated 31.03.1959.
  2. Applicants must be domicile of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  3. Must have passed Senior Secondary (10+2) or any higher examination from a recognized Board or University.
  4. Students pursuing Bachelor courses in Arts/Science/Commerce who switch to recognized Professional or Technical courses are eligible, provided they meet other criteria.
  5. Students in Class XI or XII of Higher Secondary courses are ineligible unless they pursue recognized professional/technical courses after Class X.
  6. Post-Graduate students in Medicine can apply but cannot practice during their course.
  7. Eligible courses include:
    • Graduate and Post-Graduate courses (e.g., B.A, B.Sc., M.A, M.Sc., etc.)
    • Doctoral and Post-Doctoral courses in various fields (Medicine, Engineering, Management, etc.)
    • Post-Graduate Diploma courses (Management, Medicine, etc.)
    • Professional courses like C.A, I.C.W.A., C.S., etc.
  8. Eligible non-degree courses include vocational streams, ITI courses, and Polytechnic Diploma courses.
  9. Scholarship continuation depends on satisfactory academic progress and annual promotion.
  10. Renewal of Scholarship:
  11. Renewal is contingent upon annual academic promotion.
  12. Exceptions are made for illness or unforeseen events preventing exam attendance, with proper documentation.
  13. If a student reappears for exams due to University/Institution regulations, they remain eligible for renewal if they meet other criteria.
  14. Exclusions:
  15. Students pursuing another degree at the same level (e.g., B.Sc after B.A) or switching between professional courses (e.g., LLB after B.Tech) are not eligible.

Online Application Process

Steps to Apply for Scholarship:

  1. Registration:
    • Visit the NSP Portal URL: https://scholarships.gov.in/
    • Click on “New Registration” and enter accurate information as per your documents.
  2. Get Student Registration ID:
    • After successful registration, you will receive a “Student Registration ID”.
  3. Login and Fresh Application:
    • Use your “Student Registration ID” to login.
    • Click on “Fresh Application” at NSP Portal to access your account.
  4. Access Application Form:
    • Upon login, click on the “Application Form” icon to start filling out your application.
  5. Complete Application:
    • Fill out the application form completely.
    • Click “Final Submit” to submit your application.
  6. Receive Registration Number:
    • After submission, a system-generated registration number will be provided for future reference.

Notes:

  • Note 01: Announcements and application details are regularly updated by the UT Administration through advertisements in leading newspapers and other media via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
  • Note 02: Eligible Scheduled Tribes students may receive additional scholarships, subject to meeting scheme requirements.

  1. Passport-size photograph
  2. Copy of Aadhaar Card
  3. Certificates of Class X/XII Diploma/Degree or equivalent, regarding the qualifying examination
  4. Copy of marks statement, duly counter-signed by the Head of the Institution concerned, for scholarship renewal
  5. Caste certificate
  6. Residence proof or domicile certificate
  7. First page of bank passbook
